Beneficial Nematodes are microscopic worms that seek out and destroy over 200 kinds of soil dwelling insects, including Grubs, Flea larvae, Cutworms, Weevils, Fungus Gnat larvae, Termites, Root Knot Nematodes and many others.We package these insects as three unique species (Steinernema feltiae, Heterohabditis bacteriophora, and Steinernema carpocapsae) as well as a special blend available only in bulk quantities. Each species of Nematodes prefer specific prey although they will attack and parasitize all other forms of soil dwelling insects as well.

Release Instructions

It is best to release all Beneficial Nematodes the same day as received. If this is not possible, you can store these in a household refrigerator for a week or so, two weeks max. Release in early morning, late afternoon, or when temperatures are not extremely hot. Cloudy days are perfect all day. Moisten soil prior to application & lightly water again after applying Nematodes Beneficial Nematodes may be mixed and used in a watering can or hose-end sprayer. Place the entire sponge in a clean bowl or bucket. Pour at least one quart of lukewarm water over the sponge and repeatedly squeeze for a few minutes to get the Nematodes out of the sponge and into the water.

Repeat this process with a second bowl or bucket of clean water. (Once nematodes are removed from the sponge, you must disperse them within 1 hour.) Discard the sponge and pour both containers of water into a sprayer or watering can. Some nematodes will be on the interior surface of the bag. Rinse out the bag with water and pour into the sprayer or watering can. At this stage, you should have the amount of nematodes indicated on the open bags suspended in about two quarts of water. Add clean water to dilute the suspension and to make up the volume that your spray or application apparatus requires for application of said coverage area.

Release Rates 

*Release rate guideline are for preventative control. Heavier infestations may require additional treatment.

Release upon received, early in the morning or pre dusk when temperatures are cool and the sun is not bright.
Immediately upon release the Nematodes will seek out their prey. By infecting and killing off the larvae staged of the pests, the Nematode stops the reproductive cycle of the pests. For caterpillars such as; cutworms, armyworms or sod webworms you will start seeing a decrease in numbers in 3-7 days. For grubs and weevils such as; Japanese beetle, black vine weevil and billbugs, you will start seeing results within 3 days with maximum control occurring over2-4 weeks. Nematodes infect and disintegrate the pests from the inside out. You will not see dead insect bodies as you would with chemicals.
Dealer: Place the packages in the refrigerator. You may store nematodes in the fridge for up to 30 days.

Customer: If storage is necessary place nematodes in a regular household refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. (DO NOT FREEZE) 

Use nematodes during the spring and fall months, whenever larvae or grubs are present. At first sight of adult pests, such as; leaf-notching release nematodes because chances are their eggs will be hatching soon and will begin to feed on your plant roots. Keep in mind more than one application will be necessary. Our experienced farmers have indicated to us, that the application of Nematodes in the fall and in the spring have helped them tremendously to control pests that survive the winter and will begin to lay eggs in early spring.
Generally speaking if your area experiences harsh winters, you will experience a significant decline in the population of Nematodes, which will be inadequate to control your pest problem the following year. If your pest return the following year, another application will be needed.
Due to their microscopic size they have limited range. Heterohabditis will continue to move and hunt through the soil until they find a host. Steinernema feltia will stay put and ambush the pests as they pass by.
